Mark Platts
President
Mark has served as President since leading the initial start-up of our organization in 2003. He is a native of York with over 30 years of experience in urban planning, community design, landscape conservation, and heritage and outdoor tourism development. Mark has managed public and private sector planning programs in Washington, DC, Orlando, FL and Bainbridge Island, WA. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Rural Studies from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Florida.
Mark traces his passion for the Susquehanna River to childhood times with his father, brothers and fellow Indian Guides at Camp Minqua, the former York YMCA camp on the river at Indian Steps. His interests today include American history, architecture and politics. Mark loves boats of any kind and once lived on an old wooden motor yacht in Florida. He is now firmly planted on land, living in an historic home in Manheim Township, Lancaster County, with his wife and two sons.
