Joseph began working with SNHA in September 2023, and is a member of the visitor services team. His main duties are being a historical interpreter for the historic Zimmerman Center, as well as on the Susquehanna River aboard the Chief Uncas. He has undertaken numerous academic history projects, having received a bachelor’s degree in History from Penn State University. Among these projects are a book about his hometown in Cambria County, a thesis on the interaction of visual culture and history, and an academic article on environmental history and the Civil War. Joseph is currently getting his Master’s in American Studies from Penn State, and plans to go on to the Doctorate program. He is mainly interested in the American Civil War but has done research on American folklore and folkways, food studies, gender studies, public history and heritage, and American environmental history, with a special interest in historical and cultural landscape preservation. One of his passions is making history exciting, interesting, and engaging for all audiences, and presenting it to the public. He is also a co-editor of an academic journal.

He enjoys reading, writing, exploring, creating, and working on research. Though he comes from Cambria County, he has a deep respect and interest in the history and culture of our area’s past and present.
