Barb Brundage
Interpretive Specialist
Barbara Brundage is an Interpretive Specialist for Susquehanna National Heritage Area. She has worked in the public history field for more than thirty years. She served as the Director of Education for the Maryland Museum of Archaeology under the Maryland Historical Trust, initiating partnerships with local educators and overseeing the creation of a multidisciplinary curriculum for field trips to the site. After accepting a position with the National Park Service, she completed courses in how to train interpreters, becoming a regional coach for the Eppley/NPS interpretive training program. As a coach, she guided rangers through the certification process for courses such as Foundations of Interpretation, Interpretive Writing, The Interpretive Talk, and Informal Visitor Contacts. She then went on to become a National Peer Review Certifier for the NPS Interpretive Development Program. After retiring from the NPS she accepted the position of Lead Interpreter for McLeod Plantation Historic Site in Charleston, South Carolina. This site has received national recognition for its honest, unbiased interpretation of slavery, Reconstruction, and the Jim Crow era. Because descendants of the formerly enslaved at McLeod continued to live in the original slave cabins onsite until 1990, the story includes the 20th-century struggle for Civil Rights. Barbara returned home to York, Pennsylvania in 2019 and has worked for the Susquehanna National Heritage Area since 2023.
